Install Active Headrest DVD Player for Maximum Safety and Entertainment

Want to install a DVD player in your car but don't have enough space on your dashboard? Want to provide your passengers with the ultimate entertainment when travelling? If you answer "yes" to both questions, then installing headrest DVD players in your car in your best bet. Instead of mounting these devices on your dashboard, you can just place them on the headrest of your car's two front passenger seats. But if you're looking for a better option, consider opting for an active headrest DVD player.

What is an Active Headrest DVD Player?
One of the concerns some car owners have regarding headrest DVD players is that they can potentially injure passengers at the back of the car during a rear-end collision. An active headrest DVD player, however, eliminates this risk. As the name implies, this DVD player has an "active headrest" that "adjusts" to the passengers in the event of a car accident.

The active headrest moves forward and upward during a rear-end collision. This reduces the space between the headrest and a passenger’s head, as well as minimises the degree in which the head accelerates before making contact with the headrest.

Advantages of Active Headrest DVD Player
Because of its unique form and feature, an active headrest DVD player can provide you with three very important benefits.

1. Prevents neck and head injuries
Not only is it movable, this type of car entertainment system has an advanced design that protects you and your passengers from a potential head or neck injury. Unlike ordinary car DVD players, an active headrest DVD player reacts according to the height and weight of a passenger. It can restrain and limit a person's movement to reduce their risk of sustaining serious neck and head injuries.

2. It stays put
When someone rear-ended your vehicle, you can be sure that this DVD player will stay put. It has a golden pin that locks the device into its mounting bracket. This golden pin tightly fastens the screen of the DVD player to prevent it from coming off easily and hitting passengers during a collision, even a low-speed one.

3. It's perfect for all types of vehicles
No matter how big or small your car is, this type of DVD player will be a perfect fit. It comes with an adjustable mounting bracket that allows it to be snugly fitted to the back of your car's front seats. What's more, its mounting bracket prevents the unit itself from being dislodged easily.

Why Buy It?
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize the value of having an active headrest DVD player in your car. Not only will it provide you with hours of entertainment, it can also help protect you and your passengers from potential injuries in the event of an accident. With these qualities, this car DVD player is indeed a worthy investment to make.

Practical Questions to Ask before Buying a Headrest Car DVD Player

A car DVD player can definitely change the way you travel. With advancement in technology and reduction in the prices of such entertainment devices, it isn't actually a good idea to keep on using your car's old stereo. After all, there are so many car entertainment options to choose from. What's more, you don't have to spend huge amounts of money just to upgrade your car's entertainment system. Therefore, if you want to say goodbye to boring road trips and being stuck in traffic with no way to entertain yourself, you should get yourself a DVD player for your vehicle. Your family would definitely thank you for it.

Choosing a headrest DVD player
Today, there are many types of DVD players you can purchase for your vehicle, but one of the best and the most highly recommended (especially if you have kids) is the headrest DVD player. But before you make your purchase, here are some of the questions you need to ask yourself.

1. How big should the screen size be? When it comes to car entertainment devices, bigger is better. As such, a 9 inch headrest DVD player is a great bet. It is much easier on the eyes and those sitting at the back seat won't have a hard time seeing what's on the screen. But before you choose the DVD player with the biggest screen, be sure to take your existing cabin space into consideration to ensure that you won't purchase a DVD player that is too big for your car.

2. Does it come in different colours? Because the headrest DVD player would be replacing the original headrests of your car, it only makes perfect sense to ensure that it matches your vehicle's interior. Therefore, see if the DVD player you want to purchase comes in different colours. This way, it won't look out of place once you finally install it in your car.

3. Can it play different movies at the same time? Car headrest DVD players are often sold in pairs. That being said, it is advisable that you ensure that they can play two different movies at the same time. This feature can be quite handy in case you have lots of kids or family members who couldn't quite agree on what to watch while travelling.

4. What do people say about the DVD player? It is also an excellent idea to determine what the other people are saying about the entertainment device you want to buy before you make your decision. As such, you should read headrest DVD player reviews so you can know if the DVD player you're considering is indeed of excellent quality and the one that you're looking for.

How to Install a Headrest DVD Player: A Step-by-Step Guide

Now that you have bought a headrest DVD player, you're probably excited to start using that device to watch your favourite movies as you travel. But before you can jump into that, first, you must ensure that the device is properly installed in your vehicle. Always remember that if the DVD player is not properly installed, it can potentially cause problems to both the device and to your vehicle. To help you out, here's a step-by-step guide to installing this type of entertainment system.

Step No 1. The first step is to remove your car's factory headrest. This is usually done by simply pressing a button at the base of the headrest post on the top of the seat. Once pressed, you should be able to pull the headrest and posts upward. When you're done, you should be able to see two empty post holes on top of your car seat.

Step No 2. Next is to prepare the DVD players by gently pulling apart on their headrest posts until they are of the exact same distance apart as your factory headrest's posts. When you're done, carefully slide the wires into the headrest posts, before placing them through the empty post holes and into the inside of your car seat. When the wires are all the way in, place the car headrest DVD player on the car seat, ensuring that their headrest posts fit the post holes correctly.

Step No 3. If the back cover of the car seat is removable, take it off so you can have better access to the wires and have more room to move.  If not, just pull the wires all the way through the bottom of the car seat. Now, take out the power wire assembly, which has the RCA connections, black and red wires, and S-Video type connector, that comes with the DVD player and attach it to the device.

Step No 4. Connect the red wire (power) to your car's power source. For easy access to power, tap into your vehicle's power seat wire or even the power lead in the centre console if available. The red wire can be connected using a standard crimp cap or other crimp connection. When you're done, take the black wire (ground) out and secure it below the seat of your car. Attach it to a bolt underneath the car seat.

Step No 5. Next is to connect the S-Video type connector to the wire assembly of the second car DVD player. Make sure that S-Video head and the RCA connectors are properly and firmly connected to their respective ports. Otherwise, the two DVD players won't be in sync and/or their video and audio won't work. Once completed, tidy up your work and make sure there are no loose wires hanging underneath the car seats. Repeat the procedure above for the second DVD player. Finally, test the DVD players to ensure that they are working properly.

How to Choose the Headrest DVD Player that's Right for You

Are you considering buying a headrest DVD player for your car? If you are, it is important to keep a few buying factors in mind. As you may know, there are a wide variety of car entertainment systems available today. If you don't know exactly what you are looking for, you might end up buying the wrong unit for your car. To help you make a solid decision, here are some of the key considerations you should make when purchasing this type of car entertainment system.

No 1: Format Compatibility. Before you settle for a particular DVD player, you should find out what format of DVDs it can play. Some players are compatible with DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs, while there are those that can only play DVDs with specific DVD region codes. If you don't want to waste your money on a player that refuses to play your DVD collection, it is advisable that you choose one that has a multi-region DVD player and can play other disc formats such as VCD, CD-R, and CD-RW. This way, you don't have to worry about format compatibility issues.

No 2: Screen. When buying a DVD player for your car, you should look for one with a screen size that is large enough to see clearly but can still fit inside your car. Also, look for a player with a high resolution screen. This way, you can enjoy clearer and sharper pictures even if you are sitting at the back of your vehicle.

No 3: Headrest Type. Basically, there are two types of headrest DVD players available today: the portable headrest DVD player and the "pillow" type. The portable type is one that you can easily detach and re-attach to the two front seats of the car and it can be taken anywhere, hence, the name "portable." The pillow type, on the other hand, is sold as a complete headrest that you can fit as replacement for the original headrests of your car. Each type has its own pros and cons so you must weigh your options carefully to ensure that you're buying the right type for your vehicle.

Portable headrest dvd players is easier for installation, as they do not need to run the cable through the seat, and do not require a professional to do it, they can DIY themselves. Whereas the pillow headrest dvd player let them to have a factory fitted feel, as it does not look like a add on, it replaces their original headrest, and it is cheaper.

No 4: Extra Features. New headrest DVD players have extra features that make them more useful. Some of these features include audio and video input (so you can connect other devices into the DVD player), support for 32-bit games, support for wireless headphones, and HDMI port among other things. Be sure to check out the other capabilities of the DVD player you wish to buy to get excellent value for your money.

No 5: Safety Features. Safety is also another key consideration to make when buying a DVD player for your car. When it comes to headrest DVD players, choose one with solid and sturdy mounting brackets. This is to ensure that the device won't fly off easily and hit someone at the back during a collision.

Be sure to take these factors into consideration when buying a car DVD player. This way, you can easily identify that one that's right for you. Meanwhile, if you need help choosing the best car entertainment system for your vehicle, contact Elinz Electronics. We're more than happy to help you out.
